Tips To Remember When Baking a Chocolate Sponge Cake

Following are some tips that will help you to remember things in the recipe when preparing a chocolate sponge cake:

When preparing a chocolate sponge cake, make sure that whatever ingredients you need are in front of your, in order and within reach.

Following is a recipe for baking a chocolate sponge cake:
Ingredients
·         All-purpose flour: 1 cup / 100 gm
·         Cocoa powder: 4 tbsp
·         Condensed milk (Milkmaid): 200 gm
·         Baking powder: ½ tsp
·         Soda-bi-carb: ½ tsp
·         Butter: 50 gm
·         Vanilla essence: 3 – 4 drops
Method
·         Mix the flour with baking powder, soda-bi-carb and cocoa powder
·         Cream the milkmaid and butter lightly with a spatula
·         Mix the butter and milkmaid concoction with flour and blend it with a beater for a smooth batter
·         Mix in the essence
·         Grease a lined tin and pour the batter in it
·         Bake for 20 – 25 minutes at 180° degrees
·         After baking, invert the tin on a wire rack. Separate the chocolate sponge cake and the lining paper
·         Let the cake cool and dust it with icing sugar for a simple cake
If you want your chocolate sponge cake covered with chocolate cream then follow the below method:
·         Place the cake on a smooth platform. If the cake does not rest properly on the surface then slice it a little from the bottom.
·         Cut the chocolate sponge cake horizontally in half. Now pour sugar syrup on the lower slice of the cake to soften it.
·         Pour the chocolate sauce on the lower slice and smooth it with a knife or spatula.
·         Place the top half of the cake back and repeat the sauce process again, covering the cake from top and sides.
·         When cooled, decorate the cake as desired.
Sugar Syrup Recipe
·         Water: 200 ml
·         Sugar: 60 gm
Add sugar and water in a pan and boil until the sugar melts. Let it cool until it becomes sticky and then use.
Chocolate Sauce Recipe
·         Cocoa powder: ½ cup
·         Sugar: 1 ½ cup
·         Milk: 2 cups
·         Water: 1 cup
Mix the ingredients and heat them in a deep-bottomed pan on a low flame. Stir constantly to avoid lumps. Stir until the chocolate mixture thickens. Cool it to a temperature to get the required consistency. Once cooled, store in the refrigerator so it does not dissolve when applied on the cake.
Baking a chocolate sponge cake is a quite easy recipe but one needs to remember the slight details in order to bake a perfect cake.
